Mahela Jayawardene, the head coach of the Mumbai Indians, revealed that Jasprit Bumrah will not be participating in the initial matches of the IPL 2025 season. Bumrah is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, and Jayawardene expressed optimism that he would rejoin the team soon. He mentioned that Bumrah’s progress is being monitored closely by the BCCI medical team and that they are waiting for their feedback.

Jayawardene acknowledged the challenge of not having Bumrah in the team, as he is considered one of the best bowlers in the world and has been a valuable asset to the Mumbai Indians for many years. However, Jayawardene sees this as an opportunity for other players to step up and showcase their abilities. He emphasized that the early part of the season provides a chance for the team to experiment with different strategies and players.

Bumrah has been sidelined since January this year, following an injury during the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney. Although he missed the Champions Trophy, concerns about his fitness persist. Former Mumbai Indians bowling coach Shane Bond cautioned Bumrah against overexerting himself in the future to avoid further injuries.

Overall, Jayawardene remains hopeful that Bumrah will return to the team soon and is confident that the Mumbai Indians have the depth and talent to overcome his absence in the initial matches of the IPL 2025 season.
