MS Dhoni will not be playing in the upcoming high-stakes IPL 2026 match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC) as he has not travelled with the squad to Delhi. CSK bowling coach Eric Simmons confirmed that Dhoni is making progress but the management does not want to rush his return. This will mark Dhoni’s 10th consecutive match absence due to a persistent calf injury.
Despite travelling with the team earlier in the season, Dhoni decided to stay back in Chennai for this away leg, signaling a change in his recovery protocol. He has been providing mentorship from the dressing room during previous matches, allowing new leadership under Ruturaj Gaikwad to take charge on the field without distractions.
CSK, currently tied with Delhi Capitals at 8 points, will continue to rely on Sanju Samson as the wicketkeeper and top-order batter in Dhoni’s absence. While fans hope Dhoni may make a comeback in the final league games, for now, they will have to wait for his return to the field.
