Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya admitted that their IPL 2026 campaign never really took off after suffering a heavy eight-wicket defeat to Chennai Super Kings. The five-time champions only managed to post 159 for 7, with Naman Dhir being the only standout batter with 57 runs. CSK easily chased down the target in 18.1 overs, keeping their playoff hopes alive with eight points from nine games.

MI, on the other hand, is facing a tough road ahead, sitting at ninth place on the table with only four points from seven defeats in nine matches. Pandya acknowledged that his team’s batting and bowling lacked spark in the match. He mentioned that a higher total could have given them a better chance, but they couldn’t find the momentum.

Player of the Match Ruturaj Gaikwad from CSK mentioned that chasing a lower total made their task easier. He scored an unbeaten 67 and credited his teammates and management for ensuring he felt confident throughout the innings. Gaikwad emphasized the importance of batting till the end in T20s and expressed satisfaction in accomplishing that.

Overall, CSK outperformed MI in all departments of the game, leaving Pandya to admit that his team was outplayed. With only a few matches left in the season, MI faces an uphill battle to turn their fortunes around and make a late push for the playoffs.
