Rohit Sharma, who has been absent from T20 cricket for almost a year, is gearing up for the upcoming Indian Premier League season. Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene is excited about the “newer version” of Rohit that he expects to see on the field. Jayawardene mentioned that Rohit has been putting in a lot of work behind the scenes and looks very fit and committed.

Despite retiring from T20Is in 2024, Rohit remains a key player for Mumbai Indians. In the previous IPL season, he scored 329 runs in 13 matches. Jayawardene also expressed confidence in India’s T20 World Cup-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav, despite his relatively quiet campaign in the previous season.

The coach also had high praise for Jasprit Bumrah, highlighting his work ethic and game awareness. Jayawardene emphasized the importance of values and talent identification while interacting with young cricketers after the MI Junior final.

Mumbai Indians will kick off their campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium on March 29. The team is looking forward to starting the season on a high note. Published on Mar 17, 2026.
