Good news for Kolkata Knight Riders as Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana has been declared fit to play in the upcoming 19th season of the Indian Premier League starting on March 28. Pathirana had picked up a calf strain during Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup match against Australia and missed the rest of the tournament, causing Sri Lanka to suffer significant losses. However, after completing rehabilitation, the 23-year-old has been given the green light to participate in the IPL by Sri Lanka Cricket secretary Bandula Dissanayake. Pathirana, known for his T20 bowling skills, will be a valuable addition to the Knight Riders who spent ₹18 crore to acquire him at the last auction. His availability comes as a relief for KKR, especially after the news of Harshit Rana’s unavailability due to a knee injury. KKR had recently signed Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani to strengthen their bowling department. The team will kick off their campaign on March 29 against Mumbai Indians and have upcoming matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants. The full IPL schedule is yet to be released due to upcoming Assembly elections.
