Virat Kohli stole the show at the IPL 2025 opener as he led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) with an unbeaten knock of 59 runs. During the match, a fan breached security to meet Kohli on the field, touching his feet before being removed by officials. Despite the disruption, Kohli remained composed, hugging the fan before he was escorted away.
RCB’s chase was well-executed, with Phil Salt and Kohli dominating the KKR bowlers. Salt scored 56 runs in his debut match for RCB, while Kohli’s aggressive batting helped secure the win with seven wickets in hand. Skipper Rajat Patidar also contributed with a quick 34 runs.
Krunal Pandya was the standout bowler for RCB, taking 3 wickets to limit KKR to 174/8. Despite Ajinkya Rahane’s 56 and Sunil Narine’s 44, KKR struggled to build partnerships.
Looking ahead, KKR will face Rajasthan Royals, while RCB will take on Chennai Super Kings in their next matches. This victory marked RCB’s first win against KKR since the 2022 season, setting a positive tone for their campaign in the tournament.
