Venkatesh Iyer, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vice-captain, has learned the importance of staying focused on the present. Despite being considered for a spot in India’s T20 World Cup team, Iyer’s performance in the IPL suffered as he couldn’t shake off the distraction. However, he made a strong comeback in the IPL, becoming one of KKR’s top batters. After a successful auction, KKR retained him for a whopping ₹23.75 crore and appointed him as the team’s vice-captain.
Reflecting on his journey, Iyer mentioned how getting sidetracked by thoughts of the T20 World Cup in 2022 led to missing out on both opportunities. This experience taught him the value of staying grounded and appreciating the present moment. With the upcoming IPL 2025 season, all eyes are on Iyer as he leads the team alongside other key players.
Iyer also expressed his gratitude towards the support of the home crowd at Eden Gardens and praised team owner Shah Rukh Khan for his down-to-earth and supportive nature. Despite the pressure of a high-value contract, Iyer remains focused on performing his best on the field, regardless of the financial stakes.
