Venky Mysore, the CEO of Kolkata Knight Riders, has expressed his displeasure towards the IPL Governing Council’s decision to allow an extra 120 minutes of gameplay for the remaining league matches. He criticized the decision as being “ad hoc” and “inconsistent.” The rule change, which was approved with just nine league matches left, was intended to ensure that full games could be played despite rain interruptions.

Mysore raised concerns about the timing of the rule change, especially since KKR’s playoff hopes were dashed by a washout against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 17, the day the tournament resumed after a break. He mentioned that the forecast had predicted a high risk of rain during the RCB vs KKR match, which ultimately led to a no-result. Mysore believed that the additional 120 minutes could have potentially allowed for a shorter game to take place.

Previously, league matches had a one-hour extension window, while playoffs already had a two-hour buffer. Mysore argued that such provisions should have been introduced uniformly from the moment the tournament resumed, rather than implementing mid-season changes.

The match between KKR and RCB ended in a no-result due to rain, resulting in both teams sharing points and eliminating KKR from playoff contention. Mysore expressed disappointment over how the washout impacted KKR’s chances and emphasized the need for more consistency in such rule changes.
