BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia responded to Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s claims regarding the controversy over the IPL finale venue. Saikia refuted the government’s assertion that the venue was changed due to logistical challenges, stating that the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) demanded more than the allotted 15% complimentary ticket quota. Saikia explained that KSCA requested an additional 10,000 tickets, including 700 VIP tickets for the finale and tickets for local MLAs and government officials.
Saikia clarified that state associations are allocated 15% of the total seating capacity as complimentary tickets. He also highlighted the unfortunate situation where the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), were unable to host the final match at their home venue due to the VIP ticket demands. Despite RCB’s entitlement to host the final match as defending champions, the venue was shifted away from Bangalore due to the circumstances arising from the additional ticket requests.
