Chennai Super Kings have been dealt a blow as Nathan Ellis is set to miss the upcoming IPL 2026 season due to a hamstring injury. Ellis, who played a crucial role as the death-bowling specialist for the team in the previous season, was expected to continue in that role this year. With his absence, the CSK management will need to find a suitable replacement for him.
Among the options within the team, Jamie Overton from England and Gurjapneet Singh from Tamil Nadu could be considered. However, the team also has the option to sign a replacement player from the auction pool. Here are five overseas players that CSK could look to for their death-bowling needs:
1. Fazalhaq Farooqi: The Afghan pacer has previous IPL experience with Rajasthan Royals and is a regular in the national team.
2. Gerald Coetzee: The South African fast bowler has played for Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians in the past IPL seasons.
3. Richard Gleeson: Gleeson had a brief stint with CSK in 2024 and has also been part of the SA20 setup.
4. Sean Abbott: The Australian pacer, who is also a handy batsman, was the travelling reserve for Australia in the T20 World Cup 2026.
5. Josh Tongue: The English bowler was part of the England squad for the T20 World Cup but did not get a game. He was the top wicket-taker in The Hundred 2025.
CSK will need to make a decision soon to find a suitable replacement for Ellis before the start of the season. Published on Mar 19, 2026.
