During the 2025 IPL match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Giants, controversy arose when Digvesh Rathi attempted a run-out at the non-striker’s end against Jitesh Sharma. Despite Jitesh being outside the crease, the third umpire ruled him not out based on the application of Law 38.3, which governs run-outs at the non-striker’s end. The decision was made as Rathi had completed his bowling action and crossed the popping crease before dislodging the bails, invalidating the run-out attempt as per MCC regulations.
Rishabh Pant, leading LSG, appeared to withdraw the appeal, but it had no impact on the final decision. If Jitesh had been wrongly given out, the appeal withdrawal might have reversed the decision. However, since the ruling was based on cricketing merit, it stood firm. RCB went on to win the match, with Jitesh scoring an unbeaten 85 off 33 balls. The incident highlighted the importance of understanding and applying the rules correctly in cricket matches.
