Recently, comparisons between the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Pakistan Super League have been a common topic of discussion. During a press conference, Islamabad United assistant coach Jacob Oram couldn’t help but laugh when asked about South African cricketer Rilee Rossouw’s statement that the IPL is more like a movie than actual cricket. Oram acknowledged that both leagues have their own strengths and weaknesses, with the IPL being a longer tournament and the PSL offering more intense competition. He highlighted the influence of Bollywood on the IPL, making it more of a spectacle. Oram, who has experience playing in the IPL, described it as a behemoth that has grown significantly over the years.
In the PSL, Oram expressed his enjoyment of coaching for Islamabad United, praising the team’s hospitality and camaraderie. He did mention a desire for fuller stadiums in Pakistan to enhance the atmosphere during matches. Due to rising oil prices, the PSL 2026 matches are being held at only two venues without crowds, with the opening ceremony being cancelled. Sri Lankan cricketer Kusal Mendis found himself in an awkward situation during a press conference when asked about his decision to leave the PSL in 2025 and join the IPL, where he went unsold at the auction. Mendis left the PSL mid-season due to security concerns and later played for GT in the IPL.
