Ishan Kishan marked his first century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in a remarkable fashion, achieving the milestone in just 45 balls while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) against Rajasthan Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday.
Kishan, who initially played for the now-defunct Gujarat Lions in his debut IPL season, was later acquired by Mumbai Indians in 2018. After spending six successful years with the franchise and winning two titles, he was not retained for the current season. However, SRH secured his services for a whopping 11.25 crores, and Kishan proved his worth by smashing a century in his very first match with the new team.
Expressing his elation after the match, Kishan mentioned, “Just feel good. I was hoping for it [the century]. The team is doing well, and the environment is very different.” He also credited his teammates Abhishek and Head for providing confidence to the batters at the start of the innings. Kishan emphasized the importance of maintaining composure and simplicity in their approach to the game.
Having amassed 2744 runs in his IPL career with an average of 29.51, Kishan has notched up 16 half-centuries along with his maiden century. His stellar performance propelled Sunrisers Hyderabad to a formidable total of 286 for six in 20 overs, marking the second-highest score ever in the history of the IPL.
