Sunrisers Hyderabad is reportedly considering Ishan Kishan as a potential captain for the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026 season, in case Pat Cummins is unavailable. Cummins has been struggling with a lumbar stress back injury since July 2025, limiting his appearances on the field. As a result, SRH sees Kishan as a suitable leader for the team.
Ishan Kishan joined SRH in 2025 and made a significant impact, scoring 354 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 152.58, including a century and a fifty. With a wealth of experience in the IPL, Kishan has played 119 matches across three franchises, amassing 2,998 runs at a strike rate of 137.64.
His recent success in T20Is for India, including a century against New Zealand, has further bolstered his credentials for the role. Kishan emerged as one of India’s top performers in the World Cup, finishing as the team’s second-highest run-scorer with 317 runs in nine innings.
Overall, Ishan Kishan’s impressive performances both domestically and internationally make him a strong candidate to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad in the upcoming IPL season.
