Everyone is eager to earn money through the IPL. While some individuals were caught black marketing tickets for the Delhi Capitals’ game at inflated prices, the Sunrisers Hyderabad decided to implement dynamic pricing to achieve higher ticket prices. This was all done legally through the franchise’s official ticket booking app District by Zomato. Tickets that were originally priced at Rs 900 for IPL 2026 games were now being sold for Rs 1500, Rs 3000, and even Rs 45000 for corporate boxes, with over 2,16,000 people in queue unable to secure tickets. The sudden increase in prices was for the SRH vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru game on May 22, with the Virat Kohli Factor adding to the demand. The surge in prices, along with a 40% GST increase, has made attending matches a luxury experience, leading to exploitation by franchises. This trend of inflated ticket prices is not limited to Hyderabad but is seen across various IPL venues like Bengaluru and Mumbai, turning a stadium visit into a luxury affair rather than a community sporting event.
