The upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season in 2025 is all set to kick off on March 14, with the final match scheduled for May 25. Just like in the past three years, a total of 74 matches will be played throughout the season.
Looking ahead, the dates for the 2026 and 2027 IPL seasons have also been announced. The 2026 edition will run from March 15 to May 31, while the 2027 edition is set to take place from March 14 to May 30.
In an interesting development, the IPL 2025 auction is slated to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This marks only the second time that the auction will be held outside India, with the previous one in 2024 being held in Dubai.
A total of 574 players have been included in the final pool for the auction, including 48 capped Indian players and 193 capped overseas players. However, with the 10 franchises already retaining a total of 46 players, only 204 slots are left to be filled. Each team is allowed a maximum of 25 players in its squad, with a cap of eight overseas players per squad, leaving just 70 overseas spots available.
In summary, the IPL 2025 season promises to be an exciting one, with the auction set to take place in Jeddah and a total of 74 matches lined up for cricket fans to enjoy. The dates for the 2026 and 2027 seasons have also been confirmed, ensuring that cricket enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to in the coming years.
