The IPL season is yet to kick off, but there have already been several player replacements confirmed. The new replacement rule allows teams to make changes to their squad until their 12th league match, as opposed to the previous limit of the 7th match. These replacements can only come from the Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP), which consists of players who went unsold at the auction.

Players can only be replaced mid-season if they have a season-ending injury or illness confirmed by a BCCI doctor, and this must happen before the team’s 12th match. Once a player is replaced, they cannot return for the rest of the season. Teams are not allowed to sign a player for just one match, except in rare cases for wicketkeepers when all regular options are unavailable.

To sign a replacement, teams must submit the necessary medical documents to the BCCI for approval. The replacement player’s salary cannot exceed the original player’s auction price. Additionally, RAPP players who are signed as net bowlers can be picked by any team as a replacement.

Some of the confirmed replacements for IPL 2025 include Chetan Sakariya replacing Umran Malik for KKR, Mujeeb Ur Rahman coming in for Allah Ghazanfar and Corbin Bosch replacing Lizaad Williams for MI, and Wiaan Mulder stepping in for Brydon Carse for SRH. However, Bosch’s signing has sparked controversy due to his contractual obligations with the PSL, with legal action being a possibility.
