The upcoming closing ceremony for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will pay tribute to the Indian armed forces. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Navy Staff, and Chief of Air Staff for the ceremony at the Narendra Modi Stadium on June 3. This decision comes as a gesture of appreciation for the bravery and selfless service of the armed forces, especially under Operation Sindoor.
The event is expected to feature performances by military bands and a musical ceremony to enhance the patriotic fervor. Since the IPL resumed after a break following Operation Sindoor, the BCCI has been honoring the armed forces. Players have sung the national anthem together before matches, and messages of gratitude to the armed forces have been displayed on giant screens.
With a large audience expected at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the BCCI anticipates the closing ceremony to be a grand success. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia emphasized that while cricket is a national passion, nothing is more important than the nation’s sovereignty, integrity, and security.
This is not the first time the IPL has dedicated a ceremony to the armed forces. In 2019, the BCCI invited a military band for the opening ceremony in Chennai and pledged to donate Rs. 20 crore for the welfare of the armed forces following the Pulwama terror attack. The BCCI’s initiative to honor and support the armed forces reflects a deep sense of gratitude and respect for their sacrifices.
