The IPL has made a significant rule change for the final 16 games of the 2025 season to address the issue of non-availability of foreign players. Franchisees will now be allowed to make temporary signings for these remaining matches, but these players will not be eligible for retention in the next auction. The decision was made due to national commitments, personal reasons, injuries, or illnesses that have led to the absence of certain foreign players. The league stated that Temporary Replacement Players can be signed until the end of the tournament, but they must participate in the IPL Player Auction 2026 and will not be eligible for retention. Players who were signed as replacements before the league’s suspension are exempt from this rule. IPL 2025 is set to resume with Royal Challengers Bengaluru facing Kolkata Knight Riders. The league’s memo emphasized the importance of adapting to the current circumstances and ensuring a fair playing field for all teams.
