Punjab Kings retained two uncapped Indian players for the 2025 IPL season, spending only INR 9.5 crore. Despite the option to retain high-profile international players, the franchise opted for a fresh start under new head coach Ricky Ponting. Prabhsimran Singh, one of the retained players, disclosed his conversation with Ponting regarding retention. He mentioned that Ponting expressed his desire for Singh to continue his IPL career with Punjab Kings. Singh also shared his previous interaction with Ponting after scoring a century against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023 when Ponting was Delhi’s head coach.
Singh, who had a breakthrough season in 2023, revealed that he struggled to secure a spot in the playing XI initially. However, a conversation with Sachin Tendulkar helped him adopt a positive mindset and focus on learning from his experiences. Singh’s impressive performance in the ongoing season has earned him recognition as one of the top openers in the IPL. He will be in action against Chennai Super Kings, aiming to secure a spot in the playoffs for Punjab Kings.
