Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has been fined 10 per cent of his match fee and given one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct during a match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The incident occurred when Hardik forcefully knocked the bails off the stumps in frustration during the 10th over of the game.
This action violated Article 2.2 of the Code of Conduct, which deals with the abuse of cricket equipment during a match. Hardik admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Rajiv Seth. Accumulating four to seven demerit points can result in a one-match suspension in the IPL.
Unfortunately, Mumbai Indians are already out of contention for a spot in the Playoffs after a disappointing season where they only won four games. Their final match will be against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday.
The incident took place on May 21, 2026, and serves as a reminder for players to maintain their composure on the field, regardless of the circumstances. Hardik’s actions were not in line with the spirit of the game, and he has been rightfully penalized for his behavior.
