The upcoming match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will showcase a clash between two IPL captains whose fortunes have taken divergent paths in the 2025 season. Rishabh Pant of Lucknow Super Giants and Shubman Gill of Gujarat Titans last met at BRSABV Ekana, where LSG emerged victorious. However, the tables have turned since then, with GT leading the standings while LSG is out of Playoff contention.
Pant, known for his aggressive batting, has struggled this season with only 135 runs in 11 innings and a single fifty against Chennai Super Kings. On the other hand, Gill has been in exceptional form, accumulating 601 runs and trailing only his teammate B. Sai Sudharsan on the Orange Cap leaderboard.
To have a chance at success, LSG will need to make early breakthroughs in the match. While Gill seems impermeable, Sudharsan has shown vulnerability against seam movement, providing an opportunity for bowlers like Prince Yadav or new recruit Will O’Rourke to exploit. Interestingly, half of the deliveries that deviated after pitching have caused Sudharsan to play false shots.
Unfortunately for LSG, their top wicket-taker, Digvesh Rathi, will be absent due to a suspension following a heated altercation with Abhishek Sharma of Sunrisers Hyderabad. This absence could prove to be a significant blow to Pant and his team as they face the in-form Gujarat Titans led by the consistent Shubman Gill.
