Delhi Capitals, an Indian Premier League team, has announced the addition of Afghanistan’s Sediqullah Atal as a replacement for Harry Brook. At just 23 years old, Atal has already made a name for himself in the world of cricket, having played 49 T20 matches and scoring 1,507 runs at an impressive strike rate of 131.27, with 13 half-centuries to his name.
One of Atal’s standout performances came earlier this year during the ICC Champions Trophy when he scored a heroic 85 runs against Australia. He first gained recognition during the Kabul Premier League 2023, where he made headlines by smashing 48 runs in a single over. In that match, he remained unbeaten on 118 runs off just 56 balls, which included seven fours and ten sixes. Atal also scored a century in the tournament final, making 103 runs off only 42 deliveries.
Atal played a crucial role in Afghanistan’s victory at the ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024, finishing as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 368 runs in five matches. The Delhi Capitals’ head coach, Hemang Badani, expressed his excitement about Atal joining the team, praising the young talent for his impressive performances for both the Afghanistan youth and senior teams. Badani believes that Atal’s addition will provide depth to the team’s batting lineup as they head into a crucial phase of the tournament.
