Delhi Capitals are still on the hunt for their first IPL title, coming close in 2020 but falling short. Despite six playoff appearances, the team has yet to clinch the trophy, facing familiar heartbreak each time.

One area of concern for the Capitals is the lack of stability in their opening combinations, with seven different pairs used in the 2025 season. None of these partnerships lasted more than three games, leading to a modest PowerPlay run rate of 8.76, the second-lowest in the league. The injury to Faf du Plessis only added to the team’s struggles in this department.

One underutilized asset for Delhi was Mitchell Starc, who proved to be one of the most effective bowlers in the death overs with an economy rate of 9.00. Despite his success, Starc was given limited opportunities in this crucial phase of the game, with other bowlers like Mukesh Kumar and Mohit Sharma failing to match his performance.

Looking ahead to the next season, the Capitals have made a key addition in South African seamer Lungi Ngidi, who has maintained an impressive economy rate of 7.57 in T20 cricket. Ngidi’s ability to excel in both the new ball and death overs makes him a valuable asset for the team.

With Head coach Hemang Badani at the helm, the Capitals’ squad includes players like Axar Patel, K.L. Rahul, and Mitchell Starc. The team will be looking to address their issues with opening combinations and utilize their bowling resources effectively to make a strong push for the title in the upcoming season.
