Cricket South Africa has decided to allow their players participating in the IPL to stay in the tournament until its revised conclusion on June 3, in a major change of plans for the World Test Championship final. Originally, CSA had set a deadline of May 26 for the Test team to assemble for the final against Australia at Lord’s. However, with the IPL being delayed, the board has extended the deadline. Enoch Nkwe, CSA’s director of national teams, initially stated that the Test squad would need to return by May 26, but later corrected himself, revealing that the deadline had been pushed back to June 3.

This decision is said to have come after discussions between CSA and the BCCI, impacting South Africa’s planned warm-up game against Zimbabwe. Key players like Tristan Stubbs, Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, and Ryan Rickelton are currently playing important roles in the IPL while also being crucial to South Africa’s chances in the WTC final. With eight members of the final squad contracted in the IPL, CSA’s decision is significant. On the other hand, Cricket Australia is reportedly sticking to their plan of recalling their IPL players early to focus on the WTC. The IPL is set to resume on May 17, with the WTC final scheduled to begin on June 11 at Lord’s.
