Vignesh Puthur, a promising left-arm wrist spinner, made his debut as an Impact Player for Mumbai Indians in their IPL 2025 season opener against Chennai Super Kings. The 23-year-old hails from Malappuram, Kerala, and was signed by the five-time champions for a base price of Rs. 30 lakh.

Although Puthur has not yet played for Kerala at the senior level, he has showcased his talent at the under-14 and under-19 levels. He also had a brief stint in the Kerala Cricket League, representing Alleppey Ripples and picking up two wickets from three matches. Additionally, he gained experience playing in the Tamil Nadu Premier League.

Initially, Vignesh bowled medium pace and spin before transitioning to leg spin on the advice of local cricketer Mohammed Sherif. Despite being unfamiliar with the term ‘chinaman,’ he diligently worked on improving his bowling skills.

His move to Thrissur proved to be pivotal in his cricketing journey, as he excelled in the Kerala College Premier T20 league while representing St. Thomas College. Subsequently, his impressive performances for Jolly Rovers Cricket Club earned him a spot in the Alleppey Ripples squad for the KCL, marking a turning point in his career.
