David Payne, the English fast bowler, has been ruled out of the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to an ankle injury, as announced by Sunrisers Hyderabad. Payne had joined the SRH squad as a replacement for injured Australian all-rounder Jack Edwards and played in the first two matches, where he managed to take two wickets.

In the season opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Payne returned figures of 2/35 in three overs as an Impact Sub. However, he went wicketless (0/35 in two overs) in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders. This injury adds to the series of setbacks for Sunrisers Hyderabad, as their full-time captain, Pat Cummins, is still recovering from a lumbar bone stress injury, and England pace-bowling all-rounder Brydon Carse has been sidelined for the rest of the season due to a hand injury. Carse has been replaced by Sri Lankan quick Dilshan Madushanka in the squad.

Sunrisers Hyderabad is currently in fourth place in the standings, with two wins from five matches. The team is yet to announce a replacement for David Payne. The news was published on April 16, 2026.
