The Chennai Super Kings entered the 2025 Indian Premier League season with a strong history of making the playoffs and winning titles. However, this season proved to be a major disappointment as they became the first team to crash out of playoff contention. The team struggled with a series of home defeats and the untimely injury to captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. Even the return of MS Dhoni as captain could not revive their campaign.

One of the main reasons for their downfall was their poor performance at home, where they suffered five consecutive defeats, the worst home run in their history. Both their batting and bowling units underperformed, with low dismissal rates and high economy rates. The spin trio of Jadeja, Ashwin, and Ahmad failed to make an impact on spin-friendly surfaces.

Another issue was their underwhelming performance during the PowerPlay overs, with a low run rate and average. The absence of Gaikwad at the top exposed a batting vacuum that the middle order could not fill. Pathirana, a key player for CSK, also struggled with his bowling performance this season.

Despite the disappointing campaign, there were some positives for CSK in the emergence of promising talent like Noor and Khaleel. The team will now focus on identifying core players to retain and reconfigure for a renewed title bid in the next season.
