Chennai Super Kings has made a new signing, bringing in pacer Akash Madhwal as a replacement for the injured Ayush Mhatre. The franchise confirmed this news on Thursday, revealing that Mhatre had been ruled out of the rest of the IPL 2026 season due to a hamstring injury sustained in a recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Mhatre, who captained India to victory in the U19 World Cup, had a promising start to the season for CSK, scoring two fifties in six matches before his unfortunate injury. In his place, Madhwal has been enlisted, a right-arm fast bowler who has previously played for Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals. With 23 wickets in 17 IPL matches under his belt, Madhwal brings valuable experience to the CSK squad.

One notable achievement of Madhwal’s career was a five-wicket haul in his debut season for Mumbai Indians, where he recorded figures of 5/5 in a match against Lucknow Super Giants. Now, he joins Chennai Super Kings for a fee of INR 30 Lakh, hoping to make a positive impact in the remainder of the IPL season.

The news of Madhwal’s signing was announced on April 23, 2026, as CSK looks to strengthen their bowling lineup and continue their campaign in the tournament.
