Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Daniel Vettori criticized his team’s bowling performance in their IPL opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore, describing it as “poor.” Despite posting a total of 201 for 9, SRH struggled to contain Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli, allowing RCB to chase down the target in just 15.4 overs.
Vettori admitted that the bowlers lacked discipline and gave too many scoring opportunities to the RCB batsmen. He acknowledged that SRH could not execute their plans effectively, especially after dismissing Phil Salt early in the innings.
The coach highlighted the impressive bowling display by RCB’s Jacob Duffy and expressed hope that young bowlers like David Payne and Harsh Dubey would improve in future matches. Vettori also acknowledged that the total of 200 was not enough on a flat Chinnaswamy pitch, indicating that he expected more from the SRH top-order batsmen.
Despite the loss, Vettori praised the batting unit’s potential and expressed confidence in their ability to put up big scores in the IPL. He also provided an update on all-rounder Brydon Carse, who suffered a hand injury during practice but is expected to be available for the next match against Kolkata.
Overall, Vettori emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline in bowling and acknowledged the need for improvement in certain areas to bounce back in the tournament. The coach remains optimistic about SRH’s prospects in the IPL despite the disappointing start.
