Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra expressed his concern over Dewald Brevis’ injury, suggesting that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are facing a streak of bad luck. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed Brevis’ side strain injury ahead of their IPL 2026 opener against RR, stating that he will miss the first game of the season.

Fleming mentioned that Brevis is currently undergoing rehabilitation for the injury and hopes for a speedy recovery. It is unclear if he will be fit for their second game against PBKS.

Chopra shared his thoughts on the situation, proposing changes to CSK’s batting strategy in Brevis’ absence. He recommended starting with Sanju-Ayush and having Rutu at number 3, with Sarfraz also being considered for a role in the team.

In addition to Brevis’ injury, CSK will also be without MS Dhoni for their opener, as he is recovering from a calf strain. Nathan Ellis and Spencer Johnson are also sidelined due to injuries, further complicating CSK’s lineup for the upcoming matches.

Brevis had joined CSK as a mid-season replacement last year and made a significant impact, scoring 225 runs in six games with an average of 37.50 and a strike rate of 180.
