India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been signed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for Rs 9.75 crore at the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Ashwin, who was released by Rajasthan Royals ahead of the auction, had represented the team in the 2024 season. Despite a bidding war with the Royals, CSK secured Ashwin’s services as the bid reached Rs 9.75 crore, with the Royals unable to use their Right to Match (RTM) card.
With 212 IPL appearances, Ashwin is the most experienced player in the auction. This marks a homecoming for the off-spinner, who first made a name for himself with CSK in 2009. He then played for Rising Pune Super Giant and Punjab Kings before returning to CSK. Ashwin was part of Set 4 in the auction, which includes capped all-rounders. He had set a base price of Rs 2 crore.
This move reunites Ashwin with his former team and fans in Chennai, where he enjoyed success earlier in his career. His experience and skill make him a valuable addition to the CSK squad for the upcoming season. Fans will be eager to see Ashwin back in action for the yellow jersey of Chennai Super Kings.
