Gujarat Titans secured their third consecutive victory at home and moved to the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) standings with a convincing seven-wicket win over Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Jos Buttler’s brilliant innings, which included a stunning display against Mitchell Starc, proved to be the difference between the two teams. Buttler took on Starc’s yorkers with ease, hitting four consecutive fours before adding a boundary with a pull shot. This onslaught left Gujarat needing just 46 runs in the last five overs.
Sherfane Rutherford fell with 11 runs still required, setting up a tense final over where Starc had to defend 10 runs. However, Rahul Tewatia’s six and four off Starc eased any nerves, leaving Buttler unbeaten on 97. Delhi Capitals had a strong start, scoring 73 runs in the PowerPlay, but struggled in the final overs, managing only 53 runs.
Despite all of Delhi’s top six batsmen getting starts, none were able to convert them into big scores. Prasidh Krishna and Ishant Sharma bowled well to restrict Delhi, with Prasidh taking crucial wickets in the 18th over. R. Sai Kishore bowled a tight final over, conceding only nine runs as Delhi finished with just over 200 runs.
In the end, Gujarat Titans chased down the target comfortably, securing a comprehensive victory over Delhi Capitals.
