Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured a thrilling two-run victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match. The controversial moment came when Dewald Brevis was dismissed for a duck on the first ball he faced. Former cricketer Virender Sehwag criticized Brevis for not taking a review in time, attributing the fault to him rather than the umpire. The incident occurred in the 17th over of CSK’s innings, with the ball missing the leg stump by a large margin. Despite attempts by Ravindra Jadeja to argue, Brevis was sent back to the pavilion as the 15-second timer had expired. Sehwag questioned why Brevis took so long to decide on the review, stating that the DRS is meant to rectify umpiring errors. On the other hand, former player Manoj Tiwary suggested Jadeja, as a senior player, could have taken the review. RCB’s victory propelled them to the top of the points table, with CSK unable to chase down the target of 214 despite impressive performances by Ayush Mhatre and Ravindra Jadeja. Earlier, RCB had posted 213/5 with contributions from Virat Kohli, Jacob Bethell, and Romario Shephard, who scored a joint second-fastest half-century in IPL history.
