The BCCI has taken strict action against Hardik Pandya and Ashish Nehra following a controversial finish to the IPL 2025 match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans. Pandya, the Mumbai Indians captain, has been fined INR 24 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate, marking their second offence of the season. Additionally, all members of the playing XI have also been penalized either INR 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees for the violation.

Nehra, the head coach of Gujarat Titans, has been fined 25% of his match fee and given one demerit point for conduct deemed against the spirit of the game. His Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of the IPL Code of Conduct involved a heated argument with on-field umpires during a rain interruption.

The sanctions had tactical implications during the match, with Mumbai Indians being restricted to only four fielders outside the inner circle during the final over. Despite Pandya taking responsibility for the team’s defeat, Nehra’s actions have also come under scrutiny. The match ended in a three-wicket victory for Gujarat Titans, ending Mumbai Indians’ winning streak and sparking discussions both on social media and within official channels.
