The Indian Premier League (IPL) fixture between Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants scheduled for April 6 at Eden Gardens is facing uncertainty due to security concerns related to Ram Navami festivities. The Kolkata Police and local authorities have informed the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) that they cannot provide adequate security for the game on that day. As a result, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering rescheduling the fixture to ensure the tournament schedule is not disrupted.
The chairman of the IPL Governing Council, Arun Dhumal, mentioned that the first preference is to host the game in Kolkata on a different date to avoid logistical challenges. However, if a date change is not feasible, the game might be moved to Guwahati, which is already hosting two home games for Rajasthan Royals. Despite discussions and efforts to hold the game in Kolkata, a formal decision has not been made yet.
The CAB is in communication with the BCCI and authorities to find a suitable solution. Kolkata’s Commissioner of Police has assured maximum security if the game is rescheduled. This situation is not new, as a similar issue occurred last year when KKR’s match coincided with Ram Navami.
KKR is scheduled to play CSK in Chennai on April 11, while LSG will host Gujarat Titans on April 12. The final decision regarding the Kolkata fixture is expected to be made in the coming days.
