Following an investigation by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s Anti-corruption unit (ACSU), Rajasthan Royals manager Romi Bhinder has been cleared of any corrupt wrongdoing for using a mobile phone in the team dugout area during RR’s match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Guwahati on April 10. Bhinder has been handed a nominal fine of ₹1 lakh and issued a warning for violating the rule book regarding the use of phones in Players and Match Officials Areas (PMOA).

The incident was deemed to be inadvertent as Bhinder needed to address a sponsorship matter in the dugout area and used his mobile phone instead of a walkie talkie. The PMOA protocols allow the use of mobile phones in the dressing room but not in the dugout. It was considered that Bhinder had informed the ACSU beforehand about his limited movements due to a medical condition that had required hospitalization for three weeks before the IPL.

Bhinder, who has been with RR for fifteen years in various capacities, received a warning along with all concerned parties, including vendors, to adhere to ACSU restrictions. The ACSU has emphasized the importance of following the protocols to maintain the integrity of the game.
