Delhi Capitals’ captain Axar Patel was fined ₹12 lakh for a slow over rate during the IPL 2026 match against Punjab Kings. Despite the fine, Delhi Capitals kept their playoff hopes alive by defeating Punjab Kings by three wickets in Dharamsala. Axar Patel and David Miller scored half-centuries as DC successfully chased down 211 runs in 19 overs.
The IPL statement confirmed the fine for the slow over rate offense, making it the team’s first offense of the season. This season, five IPL captains have been penalized for similar offenses. Apart from Axar Patel, Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, Ajinkya Rahane, and Hardik Pandya have also been fined.
Delhi Capitals’ victory was crucial as they stayed in the playoff race, with Ashutosh Sharma and Madhav Tiwari playing vital roles in the chase. Despite a poor start, Axar Patel and David Miller’s performances led to a thrilling win for Delhi Capitals. The victory boosted the team’s confidence ahead of their next match against Rajasthan Royals, although they currently hold the seventh position in the points table.
