The IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 match between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians faced delays twice due to heavy rainfall in Ahmedabad, leaving MI owners Akash and Nita Ambani visibly worried. Despite concerns about the weather leading up to the match, the forecast had indicated dry and favorable conditions. However, the match saw interruptions after Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first.

As the players prepared to take the field, groundsmen were seen covering the pitch due to a slight drizzle. The match was eventually interrupted by heavy rainfall, causing further concern for Akash and Nita as a washed-out game could potentially end Mumbai’s campaign. With no reserve day scheduled for the Qualifier 2 tie, a washout would send Punjab Kings into the final as they had finished higher in the points table.

According to the IPL’s Playing Conditions for the 2025 edition, if conditions do not permit a Super Over to determine the winner, the team that finished higher in the league standings would be declared the winner. This would mean Punjab Kings facing Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final, after RCB defeated them in the first Qualifier.
