Last year, the pitch at Eden Gardens came under scrutiny, with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) expressing disappointment over the surface during the latter half of the season. As KKR begins their home run in this year’s Indian Premier League against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the team management is choosing not to dwell on the pitch debate.

KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar acknowledged the challenges of developing pitches and emphasized the need for teams to adapt to the conditions presented to them. Despite frustrations last season when the pitches did not align with the team’s strengths, Nayar believes overthinking pitch conditions could be counterproductive in the unpredictable T20 format.

While Sunrisers coach Daniel Vettori noted his surprise at the amount of grass on the surface, Nayar emphasized the importance of assessing the pitch without overcomplicating things. He believes that in T20 cricket, one player can change the game regardless of pitch preferences.

KKR aims to capitalize on familiar conditions at Eden Gardens to build momentum at home. The historic venue has offered a variety of surfaces, requiring adaptability for success. As the IPL returns to Eden Gardens, the focus for KKR is on execution rather than expectation.
