Abhishek Nayar has joined the coaching staff of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. KKR, the defending champion, made the announcement on social media but did not specify Nayar’s exact role within the coaching staff. Nayar previously worked with the franchise during the 2024 season, which saw KKR clinch its third IPL title.

Recently, Nayar was relieved of his duties as assistant coach of the Indian men’s national team along with fielding coach T. Dilip. He had joined the national team in 2024 under head coach Gautam Gambhir. The decision to part ways with Nayar and Dilip was not explicitly explained by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), but it is believed that India’s poor performance in Test matches, including series losses to New Zealand and Australia, played a role in the decision.

Currently, KKR is in sixth place in the IPL points table with three wins from seven games. The team is set to face Gujarat Titans in its next match on Monday.

Nayar’s return to KKR’s coaching staff brings experience and expertise to the team as they aim to improve their standing in the IPL. His previous success with the franchise and his knowledge of the game will be valuable assets as KKR continues to compete in the tournament.
