Zaheer Khan, the former Indian cricketer and current mentor for the Lucknow Super Giants, has expressed his desire to become the head coach of Team India in the future. Known for his exceptional bowling skills, Zaheer was a key player in the 2011 World Cup-winning squad and has received the prestigious Arjuna Award.
During a recent event in Kolkata, Zaheer humorously responded to a question about coaching Team India by asking how it would be possible if he didn’t apply. He then mentioned that it would be an honor to coach the national team in a heartbeat.
With his vast experience in the IPL, including stints as Director of Cricket and Head of Global Development for Mumbai Indians, Zaheer’s addition as head coach for Team India would be beneficial. He believes that the IPL has been instrumental in nurturing talented cricketers and helping them chase their dreams of playing for the national team.
Currently, LSG, under Zaheer’s mentorship, is sixth in the IPL 2025 points table with a new-look squad led by Rishabh Pant. Meanwhile, Team India is coached by Gautam Gambhir, who recently led the team to victory in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Rahul Dravid had previously guided India to the T20 World Cup title before his tenure ended.
