Venkatesh Iyer is set to enter the IPL 2026 mini-auction with a base price of INR 2 crore after being released by KKR following a disappointing season. Despite his underwhelming performance, his unique skill set as a left-handed top-order batsman who can bowl seam still makes him an attractive prospect. Three teams are likely to be interested in him based on their purse and team needs.
Chennai Super Kings, with a purse of INR 43.3 crore and a need for a left-handed batting all-rounder, could drive the bidding for Iyer. Kolkata Knight Riders, who released him but now have the biggest purse at INR 64.30 crore, could also consider bringing him back at a lower price. Royal Challengers Bangalore, who bid for Iyer in the previous auction, may still be interested in him as a valuable addition to their squad.
Iyer’s probable price range is expected to be between INR 6-11 crore, with a possibility of reaching INR 12 crore if CSK and either KKR or RCB engage in a bidding war. Overall, CSK seems to be the best tactical fit for Iyer, with RCB as a potential challenger and KKR as a strategic buy-back option.
