Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the youngest player to make an Indian Premier League (IPL) debut at 14, left the field with tears in his eyes after being stumped by Rishabh Pant. Despite his disappointment, the packed stadium acknowledged his efforts with chants of his name. Suryavanshi’s impressive batting approach, reminiscent of a young Sachin Tendulkar according to Krishnamachari Srikkanth, showcased his talent. Hailing from Samastipur, he caught the attention of IPL scouts with his performances at the junior level.
After being picked by Rajasthan Royals at the auction, Suryavanshi trained with the franchise under the guidance of Rahul Dravid. Despite some inconsistencies, the Royals did not rush him into the playing eleven. Finally, after seven games, he got his chance due to an injury to Sanju Samson. Suryavanshi’s brave and dominating approach to the game impressed his coaches and teammates.
During his debut match, he opened the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal and did not shy away from playing his shots. His fearless batting style put the opponent bowlers under pressure. Even though he was dropped early in his innings, his determination did not go unnoticed by his opponents.
Before the season started, Suryavanshi had asked his teammates about their feelings when being hit for a six on the first ball. Little did they know that he would be the one making a statement with a six on his first ball in the IPL. With a promising start to his IPL career, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has certainly made a mark in the cricketing world.
