Former cricketer Manoj Tiwary suggested that there may be an underlying reason behind Virat Kohli’s unexpected decision to retire from Test cricket. Kohli, who had a disappointing tour of Australia in 2024-25, returned to domestic cricket after 12 years and played a Ranji Trophy match against Railways, where he struggled with the bat. Tiwary expressed surprise at Kohli’s early retirement, stating that the cricketer still had three to four years of red-ball cricket left in him. Kohli’s Test career spanned 14 years and 123 matches, with impressive stats of 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85 and 30 centuries.
Tiwary mentioned that something felt off about the timing of Kohli’s decision but believed that the cricketer would never publicly disclose the reasons behind it. He speculated that Kohli may have felt unwanted in Team India and had evolved into a more spiritual person who preferred to focus on the present rather than dwell on the past. Tiwary also hinted at a tense atmosphere within Indian cricket that may have contributed to Kohli’s retirement from the format.
