Torrent Group has successfully acquired a 67 percent majority stake in Gujarat Titans from Irelia Company Pte Ltd (CVC Capital Partners) after receiving approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). As a diversified conglomerate with interests in Healthcare and Energy sectors, Torrent’s acquisition of Gujarat Titans solidifies its presence in the sports industry.

Even after the transaction, Irelia, managed by funds advised by CVC, will retain a substantial minority stake of 33% in the Gujarat-based franchise. This partnership ensures that both entities will continue to work together to support the growth and success of the Titans.

The acquisition comes after Torrent and Irelia signed definitive agreements for the transaction, which was subject to customary closing conditions and approvals. The Gujarat Titans were introduced as a team in the IPL 2022 season alongside the Lucknow Super Giants, with CVC acquiring the Ahmedabad franchise for Rs 5625 crores.

Since its inception, Gujarat Titans have had a successful run in the IPL, winning the title in their first season and reaching the final in 2023. Despite finishing eighth in the IPL 2024 season, the team has shown promise and potential for future success under new ownership.

Overall, the acquisition of Gujarat Titans by Torrent Group marks a significant milestone for both parties and highlights the continued growth and development of the franchise in the competitive world of cricket.
