Former New Zealand pacer Tim Southee has been appointed as the bowling coach for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the IPL 2026 season. Southee, known as one of the most accomplished fast bowlers of his generation, has represented New Zealand in 107 Test matches, 161 ODIs, and 126 T20 Internationals, claiming a total of 776 international wickets. Renowned for his swing, accuracy, and leadership qualities, Southee has played a crucial role in New Zealand’s success, including their 2019 ICC World Cup campaign and the 2021 ICC World Test Championship victory.
Having been a part of the KKR squad during his playing career in the IPL (2021, 2022, 2023), Southee is no stranger to the franchise. He retired from international cricket in 2025 and is now returning to KKR in a coaching capacity. CEO Venky Mysore expressed his delight at Southee’s appointment, emphasizing his experience and technical expertise in shaping the team’s bowling unit.
