Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams, known as the Sydney Thunder’s leading wicket-taker in Big Bash history, is facing the possibility of missing the beginning of the next BBL season due to a knee injury. The 31-year-old sustained the injury while playing for Essex in England’s T20 Blast, ending his campaign with the county team prematurely. Sams, who has represented Australia in ten T20Is since 2020, was named MVP of last year’s T20 Blast after an impressive performance for Sussex.

Following the injury, Sams has returned to Australia for surgery and recovery, which he estimates may take four to six months. This timeline puts his participation in the upcoming BBL season in doubt. Despite the setback, Sams remains optimistic and focused on his rehabilitation, aiming to return to the field as soon as his knee is fully healed.

Sams, contracted with the Thunder until 2026, has been a key player for the franchise since his debut in 2018, taking 105 wickets at an average of 20.72. His record-breaking 30 wickets during the 2019/20 season still stands as the highest in BBL history. The talented left-armed seamer is determined to overcome this injury setback and make a strong comeback for his team in the future.
