The Sydney Thunder has added experienced batsman Nic Maddinson to their squad for the upcoming season. Maddinson, who has represented Australia in both Tests and T20s, returns to Sydney after spending six years in Melbourne with the Stars and Renegades. The left-hander, who previously played for the Sydney Sixers, brings a wealth of experience to the Thunder, who finished at the bottom of the BBL standings last season.

Maddinson also joined the New South Wales Blues for the upcoming season and has a solid record in the BBL, scoring over 2000 runs at an average of 20.46. He joins a talented Thunder lineup that includes former Australian opener David Warner and England wicketkeeper Sam Billings.

Despite facing some challenges in recent T20 competitions, Maddinson has been in excellent form in first-class cricket, scoring multiple centuries for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield. The 32-year-old is determined to find more consistency in T20 cricket and earn a spot in the Thunder’s starting eleven.

Maddinson’s ultimate goal is to make a return to the Australian Test team, believing that he is now a much-improved player compared to when he made his debut in 2016. With his improved defensive skills and mental resilience, Maddinson is eager to show his capabilities in the upcoming BBL season and push for a national team recall.

Sydney Thunder General Manager Trent Copeland expressed his excitement about Maddinson’s addition to the team, highlighting his experience and leadership qualities as valuable assets for the squad’s title ambitions in the upcoming season.
