Sydney Thunder has decided to part ways with coach Trevor Bayliss following a disappointing Big Bash League campaign. The team received the wooden spoon for the sixth time, prompting the decision not to renew Bayliss’ contract. Despite leading the team to three finals appearances, including last year’s tournament decider, the Thunder only managed two wins this season, finishing in eighth place.

Bayliss, who guided England to its first World Cup title in 2019, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to coach the Thunder. He acknowledged the progress the team had made, especially in reaching the final last year. Bayliss highlighted the support from the fans and the memorable moments during his time with the club.

Thunder General Manager Trent Copeland thanked Bayliss for his contributions over the past five years. Copeland recognized Bayliss’ experience and influence on the team, particularly in reaching multiple finals campaigns. The club is now looking to refresh and revitalize its high-performance set-up by searching for a new world-class T20 head coach to lead the team to success in future seasons.

In addition to the coaching change at Sydney Thunder, the Sydney Sixers are also in search of a new coach after parting ways with Greg Shipperd. Both teams are focusing on finding the right leadership to achieve success in the upcoming seasons.
